AZOMITE® - Where Does It Come From?

WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?

Azomite® is mined from a 30 million year old volcanic ash deposit in the state of Utah in the United States. This is a picture of the mine site. The mine face is within the rectangle which is an area of over 600 hectares.

The History of AZOMITE®

AZOMITE® began 30 million years ago deep within the earth in the central region of the state Utah in the United States. At that time, central Utah looked very different from today. It was covered with inland seas stretching as far as the eye can see, only interrupted by active volcanoes.

Back then, an ancient volcano erupted and spewed highly mineralized ash into a valley --- creating a massive pile, an expanse of many square kilometers.

When the rains came and saturated the volcanic ash, the natural binding ability of the ash created a hard rock formation that encapsulated the minerals. As the rains continued and the years passed, the mineral reserve became covered by a sea.

Rivers originating from many regions in North America fed into this sea for hundreds of years. The minerals carried by those rivers combined with the bed of ash, forming a deposit rich in abundant trace mineral elements.

As thousands of years passed, the seas receded and a period of tectonic activity followed, forcing the Earth's crust to fracture and lift the AZOMITE® rock bed into an exposed 600-hectare hill.

Indians that lived in Utah before the existence of the United States referred to the grayish pink AZOMITE® hill as “painted rocks” and traveled great distances to chip off pebbles to be crushed and mixed with their maize seeds for planting. The local Indians made use of the AZOMITE® deposit for hundreds of years.

Now, animal growers and farmers around the world have access to what was only a local resource for hundreds of years --- AZOMITE®.
