A stockyard producer of meat cattle reports:
When they used a wet potato silage they added AZOMITE® to the ration at 2% of the weight volume due to the heavy water content.
When they later fed a dry formula of alfalfa, barley and some dry
potato silage, they used AZOMITE® at 5% of the formula. In the non-AZOMITE® time frame their historical average for weight gained per head per
day (feeding time was 120 total days), they never averaged greater
than 3 lbs/day/head and the total cost averaged approximately $140/head.
Since AZOMITE® was started the average
weight gained has never been less than 4 lbs per day per head and
the total cost averaged $95.00/head.
The quality of the meat also improved with the use of Azomite, and
prior to using AZOMITE® the Holsteins
averaged 50% choice grade, but the last two groups of Holsteins averaged
75% choice grade after being on AZOMITE®.
The Herefords and Angus cattle averaged @ 65% choice grade prior to
eating AZOMITE®, and in the last
two groups after being on AZOMITE® they averaged 85% choice grade. At the time of the report, an increase
in Choice grading of 1% raised the value of the beef by $0.04/lb for
premium cuts. Overall, improved grades averaged an additional $45.00/head
in profits. Taken together, the lower cost of feeding and improved
profits makes the use of AZOMITE® very economical.
